Tankersley Community Association management committee is aware of current legislation under the Equality Act, 2010 and actively promotes good practice in respect of the 9 protected characteristics: – age, disability, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion and belief, sex and sexual orientation.
Current users include individuals from mothers with toddlers to senior citizens, individuals with disabilities (wheelchair users), members of local church groups, and mixed sex.

Tankersley Community Association is committed to encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion among our volunteers and facility users, and therefore eliminating unlawful discrimination.
The aim is for our organisation to be truly representative of all sections of society and for all members and users to feel respected and able to give their best.
Tankersley Community Association – in providing services and facilities – is also committed against unlawful discrimination of users or the general public.
The policy’s purpose is to:
- Provide equality, fairness and respect for all in our activities.
- Not unlawfully discriminate because of the Equality Act 2010 protected characteristics of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race (including colour, nationality, and ethnic or national origin), religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation
- Oppose and avoid all forms of unlawful discrimination.
- The organisation commits to encourage equality, diversity and inclusion in the community.
- Create an environment free of bullying, harassment, victimisation and unlawful discrimination, promoting dignity and respect for all, and where individual differences and contributions are recognised and valued.
- Recognise its responsibilities and legal obligations in ensuring, as far as is reasonably possible, that people with disabilities are afforded equal opportunities and are not discriminated against for a reason relating to their disability.
- This commitment includes training officials and all other appropriate volunteers about rights and responsibilities under the equality, diversity and inclusion policy. Responsibilities include personal conduct in helping the organisation provide equal opportunities during the fulfilment of its stated activities.
- Officials of the Association should understand they, as well as the organisation, can be held liable for acts of bullying, harassment, victimisation and unlawful discrimination, in the course of enacting their duties.
- Take seriously complaints of bullying, harassment, victimisation and unlawful discrimination by officials, volunteers, users, visitors, the public and any others in the course of the organisation’s activities.
