Judith Hopkinson

Judith has been TCA secretary for the past 6 years – taking over after the sad death of the previous secretary Roy Jennings.

Judith and her husband John moved into New Road, Tankersley in 2008 and one of the first things she did was erect a flagpole in the garden to display a vast array of flags to commemorate significant dates throughout the year.  This has proved to be very popular – to the extent she has even received Christmas cards addressed to the ‘flag lady of Tankersley’..!!

Judith hails from Birdwell where her family lived and ran Hay Green Farm.  She worked for South Yorkshire Police for 18 years before re-training as a surgical chiropodist.  Her other community involvements include being a Church Warden at Tankersley St. Peter’s and St. Pauls Churches, Barnsley Music Festival Committee member and Vice President of South and West Yorkshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs.  She also writes the Tankersley news for inclusion in the Church’s monthly ‘Vine’ magazine.

She has been heavily involved in the recent improvements and developments at Tankersley Community Association and can be seen regularly serving refreshments on a week-end at The Hub Tuck Shop.

The role of secretary involves the unenvious task of taking bookings, arranging opening and closing of the hall, co-ordinating refreshment and bar requests, arranging hall cleaning – and dealing with complaints…!!

A very busy (and very valued) lady.
