Pat Clegg – Tankersley Community Association Chairperson
Pat came to live in Pilley in 1958 with her parents Frank & Margaret Fisher. Her Dad worked at Wharncliffe Silkstone Colliery as a deputy and throughout his employment at the colliery he paid his dues into the new welfare hall fund. Pat married her husband Malcolm Clegg in 1968 at Tankersley Church and they held their wedding reception in the welfare hall. They subsequently lived in Knoll Cottages between1969 and 2008.
Pat first became a member of the Community Association back in the early 1980’s together with other ‘locals’ – Ken Lang & his wife Alice, Brenda Wing, Bernadette Jowitt, Elaine Green & Mary Tewson. Meetings were held on a Monday night. The Ladies Club used to meet in the Senior Citizens Room to play whist and bingo. Pat’s sister in law Marjorie Clegg was also a prominent and active member of the association during this time up to her sad death in 2009. Pat also served on Tankersley Parish Council up to her leaving the village in 2008.
Pat has spent many happy years working with TCA and the Parish Council to deliver gala’s, Xmas parties and bonfires. In 2000 a plate was delivered to every household in the parish to commemorate the new millennium.
Pat’s lasting promise to her sister-in-law Marjorie was ‘to give 100% support to TCA’
Hopefully she will be able to continue for a few more years yet!!!!!
