Tankersley Community Association was formed in October 1995 with the following specific aim: –
‘The Community Association’s mission is to manage, maintain and develop Tankersley Welfare Hall for the benefit of all members of the community; and to ensure its operational and financial viability by promoting its use for educational, recreational and social activities and by attracting financial support from charitable trusts, public sources and the private sector’
The Welfare Hall was built in 1961 by subscription from the local Wharncliffe Silkstone Colliery. When the colliery closed in 1967 ownership and control was handed to the Wortley Rural District Council and subsequently to Barnsley MBC following local government reorganisation in 1974. The Association have full responsibility for all day-to-day running costs and under the terms of the lease. ‘
TCA is a registered charity – No. 1051008; and registered company – No. 03120019; and is run by a management committee all of whom are unpaid volunteers. Meetings are held monthly with minutes taken and decisions recorded. The financial objective, in accordance with the constitution, is to maintain sufficient reserves to cover the next 12 months running costs.
