John and his wife Judith moved to Tankersley in 2008 although he did spend the first 2 years of his life with his parents living in the old Post Office Row in Wharnsliffe Silkstone Colliery ‘Pit Yard’ before the family moved to nearby Birdwell.
As a child he attended Tankersley St. Peter’s C of E School and has more recently served a 4 year period as a School Governor and 3 years as a Parish Councillor. Since moving back to Tankersley, John has actively engaged in community affairs including for the past 9 years being treasurer to TCA. During his time as treasurer John has been responsible for securing significant funding and developing a robust financial strategy to ensure the financial health of TCA. He holds qualifications in agriculture and countryside management, business management and music and his professional background includes 24 years as a lecturer and Head of Department at Barnsley College and more recently as Compliance Manager/ Consultant to Cannon Hall Farm. He is also a well-respected musician both locally and farther afield.
John fondly remembers attending the youth club at the Welfare Hall and openly states his objectives to preserve and enhance the work of TCA to offer a first class, safe, welcoming and affordable facility for the local community.
